#The Fallacy of Assuming Bawumia’s Viability

Some supporters of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia assume that his 41.3% vote share in the last general election is a solid foundation for him to build on, and therefore, he should be given the nod to contest in 2028 general elections. However, this assumption is based on a flawed premise.
Why Did Bawumia Lose?
As Vice President, Bawumia had all the state resources at his disposal, yet he still lost the election. The factors that contributed to his defeat have not been addressed. In fact, now that he is no longer in power, his vote share is likely to decrease.
Every Election Has Its Own Dynamics
Each election has its unique set of circumstances, and the NPP needs a candidate who can win the hearts and minds of the Ghanaian people. Assuming that Bawumia’s previous vote share guarantees him a spot in the primaries is a fallacy.
The NPP Needs a Winner
The NPP requires a candidate who can lead the party to victory, not one who relies on past performance. The party’s delegates need to consider the changing dynamics and choose a candidate who can best represent the party’s values and vision.
A Fresh Perspective
Rather than relying on past performance, the NPP should consider a candidate who can bring a fresh perspective and appeal to the Ghanaian people. The party’s success depends on its ability to adapt to changing circumstances and choose a winner.
