Chief Sofo Azorka, was arrested and granted bail by the Ghana Police Service

NDC’s First Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, was arrested and granted bail by the Ghana Police Service over allegations of assaulting Masawudu Osman in Akwatia. Azorka is set to appear in court on September 12.

The incident is linked to the recent Akwatia by-election, where tensions ran high between the NDC and NPP. The NPP has accused Azorka of threatening Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and attacking party officials during the polls.

Afenyo-Markin has chosen not to report Azorka to the police, instead waiting to see how the case unfolds. “I’m waiting to see if Ghana’s laws are being applied selectively or if they’re applied irrespective of who you are,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

The NPP demands Azorka’s arrest and prosecution, citing concerns about electoral violence and the rule of law. Ellis Otabil, NPP’s Effutu Constituency Communications Director, condemned Azorka’s comments as “reckless and dangerous”.
