Ghana Police Service Cracks Down on Fake Online Food Delivery Platforms, Arrests 10 Suspects

The Ghana Police Service’s Cybercrime Unit has arrested ten individuals for allegedly creating and operating fake online food delivery platforms, defrauding unsuspecting customers nationwide. The suspects were apprehended in two separate operations conducted on October 1 and 12, 2025.

The Scam
The suspects created fake websites and social media pages impersonating popular food brands like Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko. Victims who placed orders through these fake platforms were directed to make advance payments via mobile money but never received their food. In some cases, the suspects gained unauthorized access to victims’ mobile money wallets and bank accounts, withdrawing funds without consent.

Arrests and Investigation
The initial six suspects, Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah, were arrested on October 1, 2025, at Sogakope. Further investigations led to the arrest of the alleged ringleader, Elijah Sotama Etse (alias Pop Smoke), and three others, Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli, at their hideout in Haatso, Accra.

Evidence and Next Steps
Twelve mobile phones and digital devices believed to have been used in the scam were retrieved and are undergoing forensic examination. All ten suspects are currently in police custody and will be arraigned before court on Monday, October 13, 2025. The Ghana Police Service urges members of the public who may have fallen victim to this scheme to report to the nearest police station to assist with ongoing investigations.
