Controversy Surrounds ‘Prof’. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai’s Credentials

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has found itself embroiled in controversy over the academic credentials of its Director-General, ‘Prof’. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai. Critics are questioning his qualifications, pointing out that he holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Curriculum and Instruction, a professional doctorate, rather than a PhD.

‘Prof’. Jinapor’s academic background has raised eyebrows, particularly regarding his tenure at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). What subjects did he teach at UEW, and what qualified him for the role? His academic credentials show a BA in Religion and Philosophy, a Master of Arts in International Affairs, and a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.

The GTEC boss has been vocal about cracking down on fake and unrelated academic titles and has initiated efforts to prosecute individuals misusing academic titles. However, his own credentials have sparked debate among academics and stakeholders.

Some are questioning the basis of his academic promotions, particularly his progression to senior lecturer and associate professor ranks. What papers did he submit for these promotions, and what is his publication record? Also Associate professor cannot called himself Professor because he has not reached Full professor rank. He must drop his title professor

As the head of GTEC, Prof. Jinapor regulating Ghana’s tertiary education sector he must do needful. His critics argue that he must be transparent about his own qualifications.

The controversy surrounding Prof. Jinapor’s credentials raises important questions about academic qualifications, promotions, and the regulation of academic titles in Ghana’s education sector.
