COURT RULES DADDY LUMBA HAD TWO CUSTOMARY WIVES

The High Court has ruled that late musician Daddy Lumba had two customary wives, Akosua Serwaah Fosuh and Priscilla Ofori, and both are entitled to perform widowhood rites.

The court found that Lumba and Akosua Serwaah Fosuh were customarily married in 1991, and this marriage was never dissolved. Under customary law, a man can have multiple wives, and the court determined Priscilla Ofori was also a valid customary wife, having lived with Lumba for many years, borne him children, and been publicly recognized as his partner.

The court’s decision hinged on the evidence presented, which established the customary marriages but lacked proof of a monogamous ordinance marriage between Lumba and Akosua Serwaah Fosuh.
