MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to driving Ghana’s digital transformation and promoting a cashless economy through sustained investment in mobile money services, network expansion, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The assurance was given during the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Media and Stakeholder Engagement held in Sunyani as part of activities marking MTN Ghana’s 30th anniversary celebrations in the country.
Speaking at the engagement, the Mobile Money (MoMo) Manager of MTN Ghana in charge of Northern Ghana, David Nana Addae, said the telecommunications giant continues to impact every sector of the Ghanaian economy by partnering with government to build a cashless society.

According to him, MTN’s Mobile Money platform has become a major source of employment across the country.

“MTN currently has over 350,000 MoMo agents and close to 300,000 merchants nationwide. Without Mobile Money, many of these people might not have known what they would be doing today. Through this ecosystem, we have created livelihoods for hundreds of thousands of Ghanaians,” Mr. Addae stated.

He further noted that MTN remains one of the country’s significant taxpayers, contributing substantially to government revenue while making financial transactions faster, safer, and more convenient for individuals and businesses.

“Beyond facilitating seamless transactions, MTN continues to build the financial capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises, empowering them to grow and contribute meaningfully to the economy,” he added.

Also addressing participants, MTN Ghana’s Field Service Manager in charge of network- Kumasi, Ing. Dickson Amoung- Yam, highlighted the company’s continuous investment in expanding network coverage across the three regions.

He disclosed that the Bono Region currently has 39 network sites, while Ahafo has 27 and Bono East has 29, all aimed at improving connectivity and enhancing customer experience.

“Today, farmers in their cocoa farms can make calls and access internet services. That demonstrates how responsive MTN has been in extending network coverage to previously underserved communities,” Ing. Amoung- Yam said.

He explained, however, that while MTN strives to expand coverage to every part of the country, priority is often given to human settlements to ensure reliable and quality communication services.

The stakeholder engagement brought together media practitioners, representatives of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Municipal Assembly officials, security agencies, Mobile Money agents, and other key stakeholders to discuss MTN Ghana’s contributions to national development and its vision for the future.

The regional engagement forms part of MTN Ghana’s nationwide activities commemorating 30 years of connecting people, transforming lives, and supporting Ghana’s socio-economic development.
