Newmont Ghana Gold Ahafo South Mine has honoured its promise to the 2025 Bono Regional Best Journalist of the Year, Lawrence Yeboah Gyan, with the presentation of a Lenovo Aura Edition laptop valued at GH¢15,000.
The presentation fulfils a commitment made by the mining company during the 4th Bono Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards held in Sunyani, where Mr. Gyan was adjudged the overall Best Journalist of the Year.
At a brief presentation ceremony at the mine’s plant site, Mr. Stephen Kenyo presented the laptop on behalf of Mr. Samuel Osei, Communications and External Relations Manager for Newmont Ghana Gold Limited’s Ahafo North and South Mines.
Receiving the laptop, Mr. Gyan expressed profound gratitude to Newmont Ghana Gold Limited’s Ahafo South Mine for honouring its promise, describing the gesture as a demonstration of goodwill and encouragement for professional excellence in journalism.
He noted that the support would further motivate him to pursue impactful journalism and strengthen his commitment to responsible reporting that promotes accountability, informs the public and contributes to national development.
Mr. Gyan, a journalist and broadcaster who currently serves as Acting Manager of Wisdom FM 101.1 at the Catholic University of Ghana, Fiapre, received the prestigious award in recognition of his outstanding journalistic work.
His award-winning story, “When the Dead Are No Longer Sacred: A Cultural and Public Health Crisis in Ghana,” examined cultural practices surrounding corpses and funeral celebrations, drawing attention to their implications for public health and society.
Newmont’s fulfilment of its pledge highlights the importance of recognising journalistic excellence and supporting media practitioners whose work contributes to public awareness and societal development.
