The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has imposed several restrictions in response to a fatal shooting incident that occurred in Asewaase on July 22, 2025. The incident resulted in the death of Alhaji Abdul-Malik Azenbge, the Chief of Kusaase.
REGSEC’s Emergency Meeting and Resolutions
Following the incident, REGSEC convened an emergency meeting on July 24, 2025, to assess the situation and determine immediate action. The council resolved to implement the following measures:
– Motorbike Restrictions: No motorbikes will be permitted on the roads after 7:00 pm until further notice. Additionally, the use of unlicensed motorbikes or motorbikes without lights is strictly prohibited.
– Smock Ban: Motorbike riders are prohibited from wearing smocks until further notice, as it has become an avenue for suspects to conceal weapons.
– Football Competition Suspension: The ongoing inter-tribal football competition has been suspended with immediate effect until further notice.
Increased Security Presence
To ensure peace and protect lives and property, REGSEC has announced an increased security presence in hotspot areas, involving both the Police and Military. The council assures the general public of the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and fostering a peaceful society.
Investigation and Public Support
REGSEC urges the public to support the ongoing investigations and provide credible information that can assist in identifying and apprehending those responsible for the fatal shooting. The doors of the Security Services remain open to receive information that can aid in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
