Dr. Randy Abbey Sues Abronye DC for GH¢20 Million Over Defamation

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Randy Abbey, has filed a GH¢20 million defamation lawsuit against Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to court documents, Abronye DC allegedly made false and malicious statements against Dr. Abbey during a public broadcast, accusing him of abusing public resources and engaging in corrupt practices in his role as CEO of COCOBOD. Specifically, Abronye claimed that Dr. Abbey used state resources, including multiple Land Cruisers, to transport a personal chair to cocoa farms and manipulated internal appointments to enable embezzlement of public funds.

Dr. Abbey’s legal team asserts that these allegations are entirely false and designed to tarnish his professional reputation. The lawsuit seeks:
– A declaration that Abronye’s statements are defamatory
– A full retraction and unqualified apology to be published across all platforms
– Removal of all defamatory content online
– General, punitive, and compensatory damages totaling GH¢20 million
– A perpetual injunction to prevent further defamatory publications
– Legal costs and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court

This lawsuit marks another high-profile defamation case involving Abronye DC, who was also sued by Forestry CEO Dr. Hugh Clement A. Brown for GH¢20 million in damages over similar allegations.
