The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disconnected power to the Philadelphia Movement, a church led by Prophet Stephen Adom Kyei-Dua, also known as Second Chance, due to an outstanding electricity bill of approximately GH¢300,000 to GH¢500,000.
According to reports, an ECG official visited the church premises and demanded payment of GH¢200,000 within an hour, threatening disconnection if the amount wasn’t settled. The church claims it was targeted unfairly, with ECG officials allegedly planning to disrupt their services.
Adom Kyei-Dua expressed frustration over the high electricity bills, stating that his church had previously used solar and generators without accumulating such large debts. He questioned the ECG’s motives, suggesting that the disconnection was deliberate and targeted at his church.
The incident has sparked controversy, with the church leader accusing the ECG of unfair treatment. The Philadelphia Movement is a prominent church in Ghana, and this development has raised concerns about the relationship between the ECG and its customers, particularly influential institutions like churches.
