The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has declared a Customer Service Manager at Ecobank’s KNUST branch, Akwasi Agyemang-Abebrese, wanted for allegedly stealing GH¢35 million from depositors’ accounts. The banker is accused of siphoning funds from customer accounts and squandering them on a lavish lifestyle.
EOCO has offered a reward of GH¢100,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect. According to sources, Agyemang-Abebrese’s actions were discovered after suspicious transactions were detected in several customer accounts.
This recent incident has raised concerns about the security measures in place at financial institutions in Ghana. In a similar case, four individuals were recently declared wanted by EOCO for allegedly swapping mobile phone numbers of bank customers and withdrawing over GH¢2 million from their accounts ¹.
