Ghana is set to get its first modern six-lane bi-directional Class A expressway, connecting Accra to Kumasi through the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti Regions. The 198.7-kilometer Accra-Kumasi Expressway project is part of the government’s Big Push Infrastructure Programme, aiming to boost economic growth, reduce travel time, and create jobs.

Key Features of the Expressway:
– Eight Major Interchanges: Accra Hub, Adeiso, Asamankese, Akyem Oda, Ofoase, Lake Bosomtwe, and Kumasi
– Three Major Bridges: Over the Birim and Pra Rivers
– Four Full-Service Areas: Asamankese, Ayirebi, Ofoase, and Lake Bosomtwe
– Two Modern 20-Lane Toll Plazas: Accra and Kumasi, with automated systems for efficient revenue collection

The expressway is expected to:
– Reduce travel time between Accra and Kumasi by half
– Cut transport costs by nearly 40%
– Create over 30,000 direct and indirect jobs
– Stimulate industrial parks, logistics hubs, and service economies along its route

The Ghana Armed Forces, through the Defence Industries Holding Company (DIHOC), will lead the construction of the expressway, with a groundbreaking ceremony expected soon.
