Golden Pillar Foundation, a non profit organization has collaborated with Sunyani Central Prison to begin poultry programme otherwise christined Nkukor programme to supplement rations of over six hundred inmates.
As such prison authorities last Friday received some weeks old layers, poultry feeds including soya beans, wheat, fish, concentrate addictives, crates, oyester shells, drugs and maize for upkeep of the birds.
Handing over the birds and the items to the prison authorities, madam Ranti Adjaku, the CEO of the foundation said the gesture was due to an appeal made to them by the authorities to begin Nkukor Kitinkiti programme.
She explained the foundation which also operates a schoo,l Golden Intellectual School bought the birds and the poultry feeds from the pupils’s daily contribution during worship in school.
Madam Ranti Adjaku prays the prison authorities to let the 300 three weeks old birds multiply in greater numbers. She furthers donated a crate of eggs and said it symbolised multiplication and growth.
She noted, ‘it is expected that the inmates before they finished their prison sentences are able to acquire poultry production skills as part of their reformation exercise in the prisons.
Receiving the items, the deputy director of prisons in charge of Bono, Bono East and Ahafo, Thomson Otsyokpo expressed gratitude to the foundation and promised the prison is going to engage in serious poultry production to suppliment their ration and also raised Internally Generated Fund from it.
‘This is in line with the Director General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe- Bonnie’s reformation to allow all prisons in the country emback on agricultural activities to suppliment our daily rations of inmates recently increased to Gh5.
According to him and as part of that inmates in the Sunyani Central Prison have already started cultivation of vegetables such as cabbage, tomatoes all to feed them.
