NCA Suspends Operations of Nine Radio Stations in Ghana

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operations of nine radio stations across Ghana for various infractions. The decision, made on August 12, 2025, follows the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama for defaulting stations to remedy their violations of laws and regulations governing FM radio broadcasting in Ghana.

According to the NCA, six radio stations failed to comply with the regulatory amnesty by taking no action, while three others failed to remedy some breaches, including unauthorized use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and unapproved transmitter locations. The suspended stations include:
– Donplus Multimedia Limited (105.9 FM, Ho)
– Dreams Ghana Media Limited (104.9 FM, New Abirem)
– Jam Multimedia Limited (101.3 FM, Kintampo)
– Jewel Group Limited (102.7 FM, Duayaw Nkwanta)
– Kpandai Star Community Radio (107.3 FM, Kpandai)
– Unique Gateway Communication Limited (105.7 FM, Nkawkaw)
– Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited (95.9 FM, Accra)
– Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited (101.3 FM, Kumasi)
– Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited (101.3 FM, Takoradi)

The NCA emphasized that it will continue monitoring the broadcasting space to ensure compliance with authorization conditions and laws governing broadcasting services in Ghana. The suspension is in accordance with Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991.

This enforcement action is part of the NCA’s efforts to regulate Ghana’s broadcasting industry, promote fair competition, and safeguard national security. The authority has warned that continued non-compliance will attract severe consequences, emphasizing the importance of adhering to licensing regulations
