Nkoranza South MP expressed feelings of failure and frustration over the handling of his nephew’s killing

Ghana’s Nkoranza South MP, Emmanuel Agyekum, has expressed feelings of failure and frustration over the handling of his nephew Albert Donkor’s suspected killing by the police. Agyekum had raised the issue in Parliament and taken it to court, even going as extra mile to hire 15 independent professionals to conduct an autopsy. However, the Ghana Police Service has refused to release the autopsy report, sparking outrage and demands for justice.

Albert Donkor, a 28-year-old trader, was allegedly killed by the police while in custody in April 2022. The police claimed he was an armed robber who died during an exchange of fire, but his family disputes this, saying he was picked up from home and shot dead.

The incident sparked violent protests in Nkoranza, with youth blocking roads and destroying property. The MP is now calling for transparency and accountability, urging the police to release the autopsy report and face the consequences of their actions.
