NPP Demonstration: ‘Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna’ March Against Alleged State-Sponsored Harassment

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) youth wing is set to stage a demonstration today, September 23, 2025, under the theme ‘Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna’, which translates to “We Fear No Harassment”. The protest, led by NPP Youth Organizer Salam Mustapha, aims to draw attention to alleged selective justice and state-sponsored thuggery.

### Background of the Protest
The demonstration is a response to the arrest of NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, on September 8 for offensive conduct and false news publication. The party claims that the arrest was politically motivated and part of a larger pattern of harassment targeting opposition figures.

Demands of the Protest
The NPP youth wing is demanding an end to politically motivated harassment by the police, specifically calling for:
– Stop to Politically Motivated Arrests: The party wants an end to arrests, remands, and investigations targeting opposition figures.
– Fair Treatment: They are demanding fair treatment and an end to double standards in law enforcement.
– Respect for Opposition Rights: The NPP wants the government to respect the rights of opposition members and stop alleged state-sponsored thuggery.

The Demonstration
The march will start at Obra Spot at 6:00 a.m. and proceed to the Police Headquarters to present a petition. The protesters will then march to Jubilee House to present another petition to the President’s Office. Senior party leaders, including the Minority Leader and all minority caucus members, are expected to join the demonstration.

Statement from NPP Youth Organizer
Salam Mustapha has warned Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Yohuno to “sit up or risk leaving office as a failed IGP with no legacy”. This strong statement underscores the party’s determination to push back against what they perceive as police harassment and intimidation.
