The Ghana Police Service Criminal Investigation Department (CID) issued a press release on November 26, 2025, announcing the arrest of a suspect in connection with a petition over false Galamsey claims. According to the release, the CID received a petition submitted by Mr. Daniel Sasu Omari and two others on behalf of the Ashanti, Eastern, and Western Regional Ministers. The petition led to the arrest of suspect Wendell Nana Yaw Yeboah to assist with the investigation.
The suspect is in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, November 27, 2025, the CID said in the release signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Note on Legal Context: Ghana has repealed its criminal libel law. However, the use of false information to initiate arrests can raise concerns about freedom of speech and the application of legal processes.
