#Politics and Perception: A Double Standard in Ghana’s NPP

The recent dynamics within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have sparked debate, particularly regarding the treatment of NPP flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong. Critics argue that there’s a double standard at play, where supporters of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (DMB) are quick to criticize and make claims about Kennedy Agyapong without facing consequences. However, when supporters of Kennedy Agyapong respond, they’re met with calls for unity and peace.
The question on many minds is whether unity can be achieved without fairness and respect for all individuals within the party. Some believe that the party’s internal politics have become increasingly polarized, with certain camps being held to different standards than others.
As the NPP prepares for its presidential primaries in January 2026, the party’s ability to navigate these internal dynamics will be crucial. Will the party be able to find a way to promote unity while also ensuring fairness and respect for all its members? Only time will tell.
