President Mahama Pledges to Complete Abandoned Projects in Ashanti Region

Former President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to completing several long-abandoned development projects in the Ashanti Region. The projects include the Kejetia Market Phase Two, Suame Interchange, and the Sewua Hospital.

Key Projects
– Kejetia Market Phase Two: Mahama acknowledged that the project’s progress had been hindered by Ghana’s debt exchange program. However, with official negotiations with the creditor committee now concluded, he expressed optimism about engaging lenders in bilateral discussions to resume work.
– Suame Interchange: The President highlighted that the project had been initiated without secured financial backing. Nevertheless, his administration is actively seeking funding sources to accelerate progress and alleviate daily congestion in Kumasi.
– Sewua Hospital: Mahama assured that the hospital would be completed by the end of the year, which would help decongest the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and allow for essential renovation works.

Development Agenda
Mahama’s commitment to these projects is part of his “Big Push” infrastructure agenda, which aims to invest $10 billion in critical infrastructure across the country. The initiative seeks to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and modernize Ghana’s socio-economic fabric.

Implications
The completion of these projects would significantly boost economic activities in the Ashanti Region, improving the lives of residents and traders. Traders at the Kejetia Market have expressed hope that work will resume soon, citing the incomplete project’s impact on their businesses.

By prioritizing these projects, Mahama’s administration aims to address the region’s infrastructure deficits and promote inclusive development.
