The Kasoa-Ofaakor District Magistrate Court has handed down a significant sentence to three individuals found guilty of examination malpractice during the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The convicts include Samuel Armah, a teacher at Ghana College SHS, and two university students, Kwame Oteng Nkansah and Amedeka James.
Details of the Sentence
– Samuel Armah: The teacher was caught with leaked answers to Social Studies Paper 1 on his mobile phone and dictating them to candidates while invigilating. He was fined 80 penalty units and sentenced to 8 months’ imprisonment.
– Kwame Oteng Nkansah: A Level 100 student of Accra Technical University, Nkansah impersonated Quayson Francis Atta of Ghana College SHS during the Social Studies papers. He was fined 80 penalty units and sentenced to 6 months’ imprisonment.
– Amedeka James: A Level 100 student of the University of Ghana, James impersonated his twin brother, Amedeka Justice, during the same papers. He received the same sentence as Nkansah, 6 months’ imprisonment and a fine of 80 penalty units.
Reaction from Authorities
The Municipal Education Director, Mr. Frank-Etrue Hayford, strongly condemned the malpractice incidents, reiterating his commitment to ensuring the integrity of the examination process. The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Seth Sabah Sewornoo-Banini, who paid unannounced visits to some examination centers, noted lapses in candidate seating arrangements and assured that corrective measures would be taken.
