#Woman Arrested for Acid Attack on Ex-Boyfriend in Accra


The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a 30-year-old woman, Mavis Nkrumah, in connection with an acid attack on her ex-boyfriend, Gideon Frimpong, a 29-year-old taxi driver. The incident occurred on May 28, 2025, at approximately 1:00 a.m. at Ablekuma Fan Milk, a suburb of Accra.
According to preliminary investigations, Nkrumah appeared unannounced at Frimpong’s residence and engaged him in a brief conversation. She then asked him to drive her home, and during the journey, she poured a liquid substance suspected to be acid on him. Frimpong was identified by a group of people and rushed to the hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries and has since been discharged.
Nkrumah fled the scene after the incident but was arrested by the police on June 3, 2025, while attempting to bolt into a neighboring country. She is currently in custody, assisting the police with their investigations.
The Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned the public to seek lawful and peaceful means of resolving issues, emphasizing that acts of violence are criminal and will be dealt with by the law. The Command remains committed to ensuring public safety and urges all to report suspicious or harmful behavior promptly to the nearest police station.
The police have not released any further information on the motive behind the attack or the extent of Frimpong’s injuries. The case is ongoing, and Nkrumah is expected to face charges related to the acid attack.
