The Attorney-General’s office has revealed that Wontumi Farms Limited, owned by NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi , submitted a loan application for Ghs18 Million in December 2017 to cultivate maize on 100,000 acres of farmland and employ youth. However, investigations revealed that the company wasn’t registered at the time of application, making it a non-existent entity .
Wontumi Farms Limited was incorporated on December 14, 2017, and issued a certificate to commence business the same day. The Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem-Sai, has confirmed that Chairman Wontumi is under investigation for fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is working with international law enforcement agencies on a second strand of investigation, linked to a larger international organised crime network.
